Cambodia hands over 160 Vietnamese citizens for 160 Vietnamese for illegal entries, work

Initial investigations showed that most of those handed over showed signs of illegal exit or working without permits in Cambodia. They were detained by Cambodian authorities and subsequently transferred to Vietnamese law enforcement agencies.

ĐỒNG THÁP — The Border Guard Station of the Dinh Bà International Border Gate in the southern province of Đồng Tháp, in coordination with relevant forces, received more than 160 Vietnamese citizens handed over by Cambodian authorities on Tuesday.

The repatriated Vietnamese citizens came from 27 provinces and cities across the country, including HCM City, Hà Nội, Cần Thơ, An Giang, Tây Ninh, Đồng Tháp, Bắc Ninh, Điện Biên, Tuyên Quang, Nghệ An, and Ninh Bình.

After completing procedures, the Dinh Bà International Border Gate Border Guard Station issued administrative penalties against those who had illegally exited or entered the country. For cases involving lawful entry and exit, the citizens were handed over to police authorities in their home provinces and cities for further verification and handling in accordance with the law.

Since the beginning of 2025, the Đồng Tháp Provincial Border Guard has received a total of more than 250 Vietnamese citizens handed over by Cambodian authorities. Through classification, screening, verification and investigation, authorities determined that many had illegally crossed into Cambodia. These individuals stated that they had entered Cambodia to work as service staff or attendants at karaoke establishments, or as sales workers (in online gaming, posing as delivery drivers, stock investment schemes, among others) for companies there. — VNA/VNS
