SƠN LA — A suspected food poisoning incident in the northern mountainous province of Sơn La has left one child dead and five others hospitalised, according to the Voice of Việt Nam.

On Wednesday, family members of Lò Thị Phiêu in Mường Giôn Commune reportedly consumed fruit and yoghurt purchased by a relative who works away from home.

Later that night, three children developed symptoms including stomach ache, nausea, and diarrhoea, and they were rushed to a local clinic for emergency treatment.

A four-year-old boy died while being transferred for further medical care.

On Thursday, three other family members showed similar symptoms and were also taken to hospital.

Lương Thị Duyên, chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Mường Giôn Commune, said that after medical examinations, two adults were discharged, while the children remain under observation in stable condition.

“The cause of the poisoning has not yet been determined,” she said, adding that medical staff have collected food samples for testing and authorities are investigating the case. — VNS
