Relief effort reaches flood-hit northern provinces of Thái Nguyên and Lạng Sơn

According to initial reports from communes and wards in Lạng Sơn Province, as of 4pm on October 8, floods had left three people injured and affected about 4,000 households. Meanwhile, heavy rain has caused flooding in dozens of communes and wards across Thái Nguyên Province.

THÁI NGUYÊN - In response to widespread flooding in Thái Nguyên and Lạng Sơn provinces, numerous units and organisations from across the country came to the localities on October 8, bringing large amounts of relief supplies to help local people overcome the aftermath of the disaster.

Meanwhile, in Lạng Sơn Province, Lieutenant Colonel Bùi Huy Khánh, Head of the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Department of the provincial police, said his unit had mobilised more than 100 officers, 18 vehicles and boats, together with specialised rescue equipment. They worked alongside other provincial police units, the army and local forces to carry out operations in the communes of Bắc Sơn, Tân Tiến, Thất Khê, Hữu Lũng and Vân Nham.

The unit helped evacuate over 200 residents trapped by floodwaters, including many elderly people and children, and moved valuable belongings to safety. In coordination with local authorities, they also distributed food, drinking water and other essential supplies to isolated households.

The Mobile Police Force deployed 70 officers with vehicles and equipment to support rescues in Thất Khê and Hữu Lũng. In Thất Khê Commune alone, 38 people were rescued, including four elderly and 34 women and children.

The Mobile Police Force has assisted more than 100 residents in returning home once floodwaters subsided, helped them clean houses and belongings, and delivered hundreds of boxes of bottled water and instant noodles to affected families.

According to initial reports from communes and wards in the province, as of 4 pm on October 8, floods had injured three people and affected around 4,000 households. Six houses collapsed, one was severely damaged, 1,971 were flooded, 1,751 were isolated, 197 suffered landslides, 43 were at risk of landslides, and 31 auxiliary structures were damaged.
