HÀ NỘI — The Asia Pacific International Spirits & Wines Alliance (APISWA) and its partners late last week organised a media roundtable, highlighting their commitment to fostering a culture of responsible drinking.
With the participation of key industry leaders and leading media, the discussion emphasised that effective change requires a shared vision and collaborative solutions from all stakeholders.
During a recent roundtable discussion, Dr. Trần Hữu Minh, chief of office at the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC), emphasised that beyond stricter law enforcement, raising awareness and fostering a culture of responsibility are essential.
He highlighted that responsible alcohol consumption is not just about adhering to the law, but also about encouraging individuals to be self-aware and enjoy drinking responsibly. Therefore, NTSC commends the initiatives of organisations that take a comprehensive societal approach to effectively instill a shared culture of responsible drinking.
Education and awareness were identified as pivotal factors, with the development of a sustainable culture of responsibility hinging on empowering individuals with knowledge.
APISWA and its partners reaffirmed their commitment to providing consumers with evidence-based information on moderation and supporting the formulation of official national drinking guidelines. These guidelines would offer a crucial, standardised framework for public education efforts, aiding individuals in making informed decisions.
Furthermore, collaborative efforts with the Government, civil society, and communities are crucial for amplifying messages of responsibility. By aligning endeavors and resources, all stakeholders can ensure that the messaging is consistent and far-reaching. This collaborative approach proves to be the most effective way to tackle complex public health challenges, demonstrating a united front in addressing such issues.
At the meeting, APISWA and its partners were committed to a continuous journey of collaboration and action, contributing meaningfully to public health improvements in Việt Nam.
In addition to “Power of No”, APISWA launched its alcohol education portal at https://responsibledrinkingapac.org/vn/2-vietnam/, giving consumers access to knowledge about alcohol, including tips on how to enjoy alcohol in moderation.
The ongoing initiatives and programmes are designed not only to address harmful drinking but also to foster long-term shifts in public perception and behaviour. The goal is to build a supportive environment where responsible choices are celebrated, ensuring a safer and healthier community for all. — VNS
