ĐÀ NẴNG – The Foundation of Development and Supporting Sustainable Living Community, or Sống Foundation’s River Ơi programme and the Hands-on Scholarship Fund have jointly launched a campaign to fund 300 scholarships for students in Tiền Giang, Bến Tre and Đồng Tháp.

The Hands-on Scholarship Fund said the programme will help good students in secondary and high-schools in the Mekong Delta region continue their education instead of dropping out of school due as their families can not afford to pay for further education.

It said 702 scholarships, worth VNĐ7.5 million (US$300) each, have been given to school students in the region over the past five years, and the programme will continue supporting 300 school students with school fees, insurance, supplies, life-skills education, English courses, vocational training, summer and Tết (Lunar New Year) activities.

It is held that many school students in the region may stop their education due to their families’ finance hardship, so the campaign will help poor school students.

The Sống Foundation, a non-profit social fund, has also built 1,200 safe houses in 11 provinces and cities in flood-affected regions and constructed two happy villages in rural mountainous areas in central Việt Nam since 2013.

The foundation’s ‘Green Happiness Programme’ had helped build two parks and plant 5,000 trees in Hà Nội and Hội An and 234,000 trees in forests around the country with funding from community, partners and businesses. VNS
