BÀ RỊA-VŨNG TÀU — The body of a fisherman who went missing after a recent ship collision off the coast of the southern coastal province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu was found at 10am on September 22.
The Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command announced that the collision occurred at around 1:30pm on September 19 between a Panama-flagged cargo ship Transformer Ol and a fishing ship BV 99778 TS registered in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu about 22 nautical miles southeast off Côn Đảo Island in Bà Rịa -Vũng Tàu Province.
It caused the fishing ship BV 99778 TS to sink, with all 14 crew members falling into the sea.
Thanks to the timely support of nearby vessels, 12 fishermen were rescued and brought ashore for emergency treatment, while two others remained missing after the accident.
Upon receiving the information, the Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command dispatched its Ship 2011 to urgently approach the scene, and contact the ship Transformer Ol and other vehicles operating near the area to search for the two missing fishermen.
The victim’s body was found after more than two days and nights of searching in harsh weather conditions.
The body was then handed to SAR 413 vessel of the Việt Nam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre III under the Việt Nam Maritime Administration, and was brought ashore at around 12:50pm on the same day.
Ship 2011 in collaboration with functional forces and other fishing boats are continuing to search for the remaining missing fisherman. — VNS
