HẬU GIANG — German chemical company BASF has broken ground on a building at the Phương Ninh Primary & Secondary School in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Hậu Giang, which will benefit around 150 students.

Situated in a remote area in Phụng Hiệp District, the school, built in the 1990s, is in a rundown and unsafe condition for students and school staff, especially during the rain and flood season.

The work began on September 20 to build four new classrooms and a 1,000 sq.m playground.

It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

The company has renovated eight schools since 2015 to support education in the country.

Erick Contreras, managing director of BASF Vietnam, said: “At BASF, we support the United Nations’ sustainable development goal of providing quality education to the community. Offering the next generation the best start in life with safer and more comfortable learning facilities through school renovation is one of our social engagement priorities.

“It is especially meaningful this year as we celebrate our 30th anniversary in Việt Nam and continue to drive this long-term programme with our key customers and business partners to support the country’s future talent.” —VNS
