Nine casualties and missing due to floods in Mường Pồn

ĐBP — Flash floods and flooding caused by prolonged heavy rains led to two deaths, two injured and left five people missing after wreaking havoc on Mường Pồn Commune, Điện Biên District in the northern mountainous province of Điện Biên on Wednesday night.

The flash flood swept away many houses and dozens of hectares of rice fields.

The floods injured two people and caused significant property damage.

Family members anxiously await news about the missing victims.

About ten houses were swept away, eight houses collapsed and around 100 other houses were partly damaged. Many hectares of rice fields were completely destroyed.

Local authorities and residents work to address the aftermath of the flash flood.

The total estimated damage is VNĐ2.7 billion (US$106,520).

Landslides and mud blocked roads caused traffic congestion on National Highway 12, passing through the Lĩnh village area in Mường Pồn Commune.

Rescue forces make efforts to search for the missing victims.

Authorities are still searching for the missing persons and addressing the flood damage. — VNS
