KIÊN GIANG – The Phú Quốc City's People's Committee has submitted a proposal to the Kiên Giang Province's People's Committee asking for investment to build a waste treatment plant project with a capacity of 300 tonnes a day, with a total investment of about VNĐ300 billion (US$12 million).

Accordingly, this plant will treat waste using incineration technology combined with hygienic landfill technology, with a scale of 10-14ha.

After the project is completed, Phú Quốc City authorities will organise bidding for exploitation or assign its Urban Works Management Board to operate and exploit.

According to the City's People's Committee, daily household waste generated in the city is considered the most urgent problem among many risks causing environmental pollution, causing frustration for residents and tourists, negatively impacting economic and social development.

Meanwhile, this city currently has no operating waste treatment plants. Daily waste in this city is only collected and gathered in Cửa Dương Commune. – VNS
