HÀ NỘI — An Indian motorcyclist is to be prosecuted for his involvement in a hit-and-run in the northern province of Quảng Ninh.  

The police of Quảng Ninh have finished investigating the case and transferred it to the Provincial People's Procuracy for prosecution.

The suspect, Sharma Rohit, a 26-year-old Indian national, was allegedly driving a motorcycle on Hoàng Quốc Việt Street, Hạ Long City, when he lost control and struck a pedestrian, Chou Man Luan, a Taiwanese woman crossing the street on December 7, 2023.

Tragically, Chou lost her life as a result of the collision. Rather than stopping to assist the victim, Rohit left the scene, leaving Chou unattended.

During the inquiry, Rohit admitted to driving without a valid license.

The police have recommended that Rohit be charged with violating road traffic regulations under Article 260 of the Criminal Code. — VNS
