HÀ NỘI — Highways must have at least four lanes with maximum speed of 120km per hour and must have rest stops, according to a new circular released by the Ministry of Transport.
The circular about national technical regulations on expressways will take effect from October 1 this year.
Also under the circular, expressways must include emergency stopping lanes.
Construction works associated with expressways include a centre for traffic management and operation, rest stop station, non-stop automatic toll collection system, vehicle weighing station and protective barrier.
Along expressways, different sections can have different maximum speeds, but two consecutive sections must not differ by more than 20km per hour.
Minimum lane width should be at least 3.50m.
As for emergency stopping lanes, the minimum width should be at least 2.5m.
The width of the safety strip is regulated to be at least 0.5m to 0.75m. — VNS
