HÀ NỘI — The labour ministry is collecting opinions from relevant agencies and asking the Government leader to decide on a potential 'exchange' of working day for workers to have a full five-day holiday in the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1) this year.
This year, these two holidays fall on Tuesday and Wednesday, so the labour ministry is seeking to let people have Monday as an off day as well and work on another day instead, so they can have a continuous five-day holiday (from Saturday, March 27 to the end of Wednesday, May 1), which helps stimulate tourism and social consumption, promoting economic growth.
Substitution of one working day for another day off does not alter the working hours of officials, civil servants, employees, and workers, the labour ministry noted.
According to Article 112, Clause 3 of the Labour Code, only the Prime Minister can decide on the specific determination of the public holidays for the Lunar New Year and National Day, while other holidays are not subject to the Prime Minister's decision. — VNS
