8,616 new COVID-19 cases reported on Monday

Authorities in Hà Nội announced 239 new cases on Monday.

HÀ NỘI — A total of 8,616 new COVID-19 infections and 101 deaths were reported in Việt Nam on Monday.

Việt Nam’s total caseload now stands at 1,035,138, of which 1,030,096 are the result of the fourth wave of infections that have swept the country since late April.

HCM City recorded the highest daily case count with 1,165, followed by An Giang with 660 and Bình Dương with 616.

Authorities in Hà Nội reported 239 new cases. 

The other cases were detected in Tây Ninh (579), Đồng Nai (558), Tiền Giang (500), Đồng Tháp (383), Bình Thuận (342), Kiên Giang (329), Sóc Trăng (305), Bạc Liêu (298), Vĩnh Long (289), Cà Mau (215), Bình Phước (187), Trà Vinh (179), Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu (178), Long An (136), Cần Thơ (125), Hà Giang (117), Khánh Hòa (111), Thái Bình (92), Bến Tre (90), Hậu Giang (87), Thừa Thiên Huế (81), Bắc Ninh (70), Lâm Đồng (68), Bình Định (55), Đắk Nông (51), Hải Dương (45), Quảng Nam (41), Ninh Thuận (39), Bắc Giang (38), Tuyên Quang (35), Quảng Ngãi (31), Gia Lai (25), Hà Tĩnh (24), Phú Yên (24), Quảng Ninh (23), Hưng Yên (22), Thanh Hóa (21), Hà Nam (19), Ninh Bình (17), Phú Thọ (17), Đà Nẵng (13), Quảng Bình (12), Điện Biên (11), Nam Định (10), Lạng Sơn (9), Vĩnh Phúc (8), Hải Phòng (5), Kon Tum (4), Thái Nguyên (1), Hòa Bình (1), Yên Bái (1), Bắc Kạn (1), and Cao Bằng (1).

Among yesterday's new cases, 13 were imported and the rest were local transmissions. A total of 3,950 new infections were detected in the community.

The 101 COVID-related deaths were in HCM City (45), An Giang (10), Bình Dương (9), Long An (7), Tiền Giang (6), Kiên Giang (6), Đồng Nai (3), Tây Ninh (2), Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu (2), Đồng Tháp (2), Cần Thơ (2), Cần Thơ (2), Bạc Liêu (2), Ninh Thuận (2), and Đắk Lắk (1).

There have been 23,183 COVID-related fatalities in Việt Nam to date, or 2.2 per cent of total cases.

According to the Ministry of Health’s report, 3,950 patients nationwide are in a serious condition, with 368 requiring invasive ventilation and 13 on life support (ECMO).

A further 1,205 patients were given the all-clear on Monday, taking the total number of recoveries to 864,516.

Nearly 99.8 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have now been administered in Việt Nam, with over 35.2 million people fully inoculated. 

So far, 16 out of 63 provinces and cities have achieved over 95 per cent first-dose coverage for their adult populations, namely Hà Nội, Hải Phòng, Bắc Ninh, Vĩnh Phúc, Quảng Ninh, Đà Nẵng, Khánh Hòa, Ninh Thuận, HCM City, Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu, Đồng Nai, Long An, Lâm Đồng, Vĩnh Long, Bình Dương and Hậu Giang.

Seventeen localities have reached over 50 per cent second-dose coverage. They are Long An, Khánh Hòa, Quảng Ninh, Đồng Nai, HCM City, Hà Nội, Lạng Sơn, Hà Nam, Bình Dương, Bắc Ninh, Ninh Bình, Lâm Đồng, Bình Phước, Tây Ninh, Đồng Tháp, Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu and Bạc Liêu.

Several localities – Ninh Bình, Quảng Ninh, Lạng Sơn, Lào Cai, Điện Biên, Đà Nẵng, HCM City, Đồng Nai, Tây Ninh, Sóc Trăng, An Giang, Vĩnh Long, Bình Dương, Kiên Giang, Cà Mau, Hậu Giang – have already begun vaccinating children aged 12-17.

About 1.4 million doses have been administered to this age group, covering 15.5 per cent of the total population.

The ministry aims to have administered 150 million doses of vaccine (costing around US$1.1 billion) to 75 million people, or 75 per cent of the population, by April 2022, to achieve herd immunity. — VNS
