HÀ NỘI — The Nhật Tân Peach Blossoms Festival has been launched in full bloom, putting its finest flowers and trees on show for visitors to check in, learn about a treasured Hà Nội craft and shop ahead of Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday.

The event is organised by the Hồng Hà Ward People’s Committee and the Nhật Tân Peach Blossom Traditional Craft Village Association.

It aims to honour the value of the traditional peach blossom craft and showcase artistic peach blossom arrangements for residents and tourists celebrating the Year of the Horse 2026.

Nhật Tân is one of the ancient craft villages of Thăng Long-Hà Nội, long renowned for flower cultivation, with peach blossoms at its heart thanks to the fertile alluvial soil along the Red River and the distinctive climate of the West Lake area.

Over generations, villagers have built up experience in variety selection and specialised techniques to create peach trees with graceful forms, long-lasting blooms and abundant buds, gradually shaping the nationwide reputation of Nhật Tân peach blossoms.

Despite many challenges and difficulties, villagers have preserved their craft, with the blossom remaining not only an agricultural product but also a cultural symbol of Tết across the country, especially in Hà Nội.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on January 19, Trần Tuấn Việt, the association’s chairman, said Nhật Tân peach blossoms were not only a product of skilled labour but also a symbol of cultural and spiritual significance, closely tied to the traditional Tết and connecting Vietnamese people.

Many peach blossoms have bloomed, signaling the arrival of spring.

The festival provided an opportunity to honour the cultural values of the craft village and promote peach blossom bonsai works of high artistic value to residents and tourists.

After relocation, Nhật Tân peach trees are mainly grown on the floodplain along the Red River, covering a total area of about 80ha, with varieties including ancient peach, double-flowered peach and Thất Thốn peach, a rare and highly prized Vietnamese variety known as the royal peach or emperor’s peach.

They are cared for by around 750 households, generating annual revenue of about VNĐ60 billion (US$2.3 million).

Nguyễn Hải Đăng, vice chairman of the Hồng Hà Ward People’s Committee, said that in the coming period, the craft village would be developed in a way that preserves traditional values while promoting cultural and experiential tourism.

Villagers are encouraged to create peach blossom works of high artistic value, promote and build Nhật Tân peach blossoms as a professional and sustainable brand, and strengthen the role of the younger generation in inheriting and applying science and technology to production.

Open until February 16, the festival serves as a space for displaying and selling products to visitors, as well as an ideal place for them to check in, take photos and deepen their experience and understanding of this unique culture. — VNS
