HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese-produced movie Bò Sữa Bay (Flying Cows) is one of 30 projects selected to join the Asian Project Market, one of the main activities of the 2025 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF 2025).
The first feature film by young director Nguyễn Phạm Thành Đạt mixes drama, crime, romance and fantasy, bringing a story about love, people and ideals.
It is a story about a dairy farm in the process of industrialisation, where Trâu, a poor farmer, is asked to steal a secret milk formula in hopes of lifting his family out of poverty.
However, he falls in love with San, the boss's daughter and the person holding the formula, forcing Trâu to face a tough choice - the future of his family or the girl he can't betray.
Before Busan, Flying Cows won the Best Genre Project award from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) within the framework of the third Đà Nẵng Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) Project Market 2025 in early July.
Director Đạt made a big bang in the local community with his short film entitled Đàn Cá Gỗ, which won the Best Prize in the national Golden Kite Award 2024.
On its first day of release on July 7, more than 50,000 tickets were sold, earning nearly VNĐ1.5 billion to take the top position in revenue for the day.
The 30th BIFF will take place from September 17 to 26 with many innovations, such as the first Busan Awards and the Best Film award will be shown at the closing ceremony. —VNS
