HÀ NỘI A bilingual book of photographs showcasing the development of Việt Nam’s revolutionary press over the past 100 years has been introduced to the public by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Publishing House.
The publication, entitled 100 Năm Báo Chí Cách Mạng Việt Nam (100 Years of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press, 1925 - 2025), was released in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Việt Nam's Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - 2025).
It is the first photo book on the theme, featuring concise articles along with over 1,000 rare images and documents meticulously sourced from VNA's Photo Editorial Team and Information Documentation Centre, the Vietnamese Journalism Museum, the Journalism Training Centre under Vietnam Journalists' Association and the National History Museum, among others.
The articles, images and documents in the 372-page book are presented chronologically in six parts, providing an overview of the formation and development of Việt Nam’s revolutionary press in connection with the country’s development.
The founding of the Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper by President Hồ Chí Minh on June 21, 1925 marked the birth of Việt Nam’s revolutionary press. Over the past 100 years, accompanying the nation through each phase of its journey and overcoming countless difficulties, hardships and sacrifices under the Communist Party’s leadership, the revolutionary press consistently served as a sharp weapon and a vanguard on the ideological and cultural front, making significant contributions to the struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as the cause of building and safeguarding the nation.
Việt Nam’s revolutionary press has developed and grown steadily over the past century, with 797 press agencies, 72 broadcast and television agencies, more than 1,200 newspapers and magazines, and over 21,000 accredited journalists. Together, they comprehensively reflect all aspects of social life, with a level of development on par with the region and the world, helping to enhance Việt Nam’s position and image in the international area.
With its tremendous contributions to the nation’s glorious revolutionary cause, Việt Nam’s revolutionary press has been recognised, highly valued and honoured with the highest awards by the Party and State.
“The book is a profound tribute to President Hồ Chí Minh, the great revolutionary journalist and founder of Việt Nam’s revolutionary press, as well as to the generations of revolutionary Vietnamese journalists, especially those who sacrificed their lives for the development of our journalism today," Phùng Thị Mỹ, director and editor-in-chief of the VNA Publishing House, said at the book launch.
“It embodies trust, pride and encouragement for young journalists of today and tomorrow to steadfastly walk alongside the nation.”
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Tô Lâm said he highly appreciated the coordination between the Central Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilisation and the VNA in directing the VNA Publishing House to compile and publish 100 Years of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press.
“The photo book holds high documentary value, vividly reflecting the glorious journey of the revolutionary press, and expressing boundless gratitude to President Hồ Chí Minh – an eminent revolutionary journalist – and generations of journalist-soldiers who have steadfastly and devotedly contributed to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation,” he wrote in the book's foreword.
Lê Quốc Minh, a member of the Central Committee of the Party and editor-in-chief of the Nhân Dân (People) newspaper, highly valued the publication, which was compiled and printed in a bilingual format.
"It not only helps Vietnamese people better understand the history of our journalism, but also vividly introduces the proud development journey of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism to international friends," he said.
"When we look at this book, we can systematically review the 100-year journey of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism, from its difficult beginnings to the present."
