BÀ RỊA-VŨNG TÀU — Standard Chartered Bank Việt Nam (SCB), in collaboration with NGO Orbis Việt Nam and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Eye Hospital, organised an eye-care camp on Sunday in southern Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province.
A crew of experienced doctors, supported by SCB’s volunteers, conducted free eye check-ups for around 200 locals from Long Sơn Commune, presented 100 spectacles to those in need and educated people about how to care for their eyes and prevent problems and lose of sight.
Nirukt Sapru, CEO of SCB, who also volunteered at the session, said “I’m overwhelmed by the effort of our colleagues and partners to fight avoidable blindness and provide a brighter future for local people. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Orbis Việt Nam and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Eye Hospital for their wonderful contribution and support. As stated in our brand promise, “Here for good”, we are committed to creating a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work.”
The 80 volunteers, who are in SCB’s Việt Nam leadership team and helped at the camp, also repaired community facilities and cleaned the commune’s surroundings.
The session is part of SCB’s broader efforts to tackle avoidable blindness through its global initiative Seeing is Believing. Orbis Việt Nam is SCB’s partner in this campaign. The project, now at Tranche 3, Phase 5, in Việt Nam, has a total budget of US$2.22 million. Its target is to benefit 2.2 million Vietnamese in the 2016-18 period. — VNS
