HCM CITY — Medical innovation contributes to raising the quality of comprehensive care and improving the quality of life for patients, delegates said at a scientific conference in HCM City on December 9.

The Hoàn Mỹ Scientific Conference 2022, themed "Medical innovation in a changing world", took place from December 8 to 9 at Riverside Palace Convention Centre in District 4.

This year's conference, organised in collaboration with Ireland Enterprise, attracted more than 400 health professionals, scientists, representatives of regulatory agencies under the Ministry of Health, administrators, and foreigners who attended with 20 thematic reports and 60 scientific research papers.

Nguyễn Trọng Khoa, deputy head of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment under the Ministry of Health, said the annual conference creates a forum to help colleagues inside and outside Hoàn Mỹ’s medical system share knowledge, professional experience and the latest innovation in the healthcare industry.

He also highly appreciated the achievements and contributions of the group in the country’s health sector in the past 25 years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Experts said changes and fluctuations after the pandemic worldwide had promoted digitalisation and telemedicine to become a new trend and a prerequisite for the development and application of medicine.

Dr. Dilshaad Ali Bin Abas Ali, Group chief executive officer of Hoàn Mỹ Medical Group, said the health industry had faced many difficulties and challenges after the pandemic.

“That forces us to find new ways to adapt and keep up to date with medical advances in care and treatment, helping to improve quality,” he said.

Science has been improving as well as the speed of technological development, especially in the medical field.

“That's why we need to constantly update new knowledge to catch up with the world and meet the high requirements in healthcare activities,” he said.

On December 8, the conference had pre-workshops with new trends in infection control, electronic health, and breakthrough technologies and innovations in cancer treatment.

There were research papers about cancer such as "Evaluation of nuclear medicine in cancer," presented by Dr. Nguyễn Duy Cảnh, head of the Nuclear Medicine Department of Chợ Rẫy Hospital, and "The role of the multidisciplinary consultant in oncology" by Dr. Đặng Huy Quốc Thịnh, deputy director of the HCM City Oncology Hospital.

This research updated advanced technology in diagnosing cancer, detecting it at an early stage and improving the quality of treatment.

The main session on December 9 included one overall session and three specialised sessions.

The specialised sessions included surgery-obstetrics, resuscitation and emergency, pharmacology of internal pediatrics, subclinical and quality management, and nursing, with topics updated annually.

Reports and research in the overall session provided updated knowledge in new fields, from management-related problems and medical economics to applications in cancer, surgery, pulmonology like COPD, enterology, and infections.

The highlights were “Infection of the resistant organism-prevention efforts” by associate professor, PhD. Lê Thi Anh Thư, Group chief medical officer of Hoàn Mỹ Medical Corporation, which helps prevent antibiotic resistance in Việt Nam.

“Digitisation in rectal surgery" by PhD. M.D. Lê Tuấn Anh, director of the oncology centre of Chợ Rẫy Hospital, updated the trend of surgical robots, combined with advanced technologies, making rectal surgery more accurate, less invasive, painless and highly effective.

Besides the conference, there was also an exhibition displaying new medical devices from many famous brands such as Phillips and Abbott, and new technology applications in diagnosis and treatment.

Hoàn Mỹ has 15 hospitals and seven clinics across the country, with more than 5,500 employees serving nearly four million outpatient visits by 2021.
