HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam won six gold medals at the 2019 International Weightlifting Federation World Cup in Fuzhou, China over the weekend.
Lại Gia Thành won three gold medals in the men’s 55kg in the snatch, clean & jerk and total lift with results of 116kg, 145kg and 261kg.
Thành, 19, was world silver medallist in the 55kg behind Om Yun Chol of North Korea.
Vương Thị Huyền dominated in the women’s 45kg category with two gold medals in the clean & jerk and total lift. The gold medal in the snatch went to Khổng Mỹ Phượng.
In the men’s 61kg, Thạch Kim Tuấn won silver with a total lift of 295, a bronze in the snatch with 135kg, and a bronze in the clean & jerk with 160kg. The gold medal went to Eko Yili Irawan of Indonesia.
Việt Nam sent 13 athletes to the event which is one of six mandatory tournaments that athletes must take part in to collect points for Tokyo 2020 Olympics berths. — VNS
