HÀ NỘI – The International Women’s Volleyball Tournament, VTV Cup, is scheduled to kick off in the northern province of Hải Dương on July 8.
Seven teams will take part, including two Vietnamese teams, Japanese students, South Korea’s Suwon Hyundai E&C, and teams from Indonesia, Thailand and China, the event’s organising board said.
Among the participants, Suwon, established in 1977, won national-level events in the 2010-11 and 2015-16 seasons.
The teams will play under the round-robin format to shortlist the top four teams that will progress to the semi-finals. The tournament will go on till July 15.
The annual event first began in 2004 and is organised by the Việt Nam Volleyball Federation and Việt Nam Television. So far, Việt Nam have claimed the championship title four times, in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014.
The tournament will give Vietnamese players a good opportunity to hone their skills for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia in August. – VNS
