HÀ NỘI — Gangwon FC of K-League will allow Vietnamese midfielder Lương Xuân Trường to play for U23 Việt Nam national team in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games to be held in Malaysia in August.
This statement was confirmed in a meeting between a Việt Nam Football Federation (VFF) official and Gangwon’s director Jim My Cho.
Trường is a key player in Việt Nam team. He plays for Gangwon under an on loan contract from V.League club Hoàng Anh Gia Lai.
The Games don’t belong to the FIFA’s competition system, so the clubs holding the registration of players called up to play are not obliged to release their players.
However, the VFF suggested that Gangwon allow Trường to participate in Việt Nam team national football training session in August.
Trường was called up to the national U19 team in 2013-14 season, the U23 team in 2015 and Việt Nam’s national team in 2016. — VNS
