HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam ranked first at the 12th SEA Youth Athletics Championships which closed yesterday in the Philippines.
Vietnamese athletes won 13 gold and seven silver medals at the two-day tournament in Ilagan City. Malaysia came in second with five golds, five silvers and six bronzes. Indonesia were third with five golds and two silvers.
Yesterday, Việt Nam pocketed eight titles.
Bùi Thị Trang won the girls’ 400m hurdles event with a time of 63.35sec. Her teammate Lê Thị Hồng Hân came second, followed by Bernalyn Bejoy of the hosts.
Hân then had her chance to taste victory in the 400m class.
Nguyễn Trung Cường triumphed in the boys’ 1,500m event while his teammate Đoàn Thu Hằng topped the female category.
Cường earlier won a title in the 2,000m steeplechase. Ngô Thị Khánh Ly won the girls’ 2,000m steeplechase.
In the morning session, Nguyễn Lan Anh jumped 1.71m to take the top spot at the girls’ high-jump pool.
The tournament attracted about 300 participants from eight countries in the region. Việt Nam sent 17 competitors. — VNS
