Vietnamese gymnast nabs gold at world event

Gymnast Lê Thanh Tùng snatched a gold medal with a perfect landing in the men’s vault finals with a score of 14.733 at the 10th edition of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, Qatar yesterday.

DOHA, Qatar — Gymnast Lê Thanh Tùng snatched a gold medal with a perfect landing in the men’s vault finals with a score of 14.733 at the 10th edition of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, Qatar yesterday.

This is Tùng’s first gold in a world event. The 22-year-old gymnast from HCM City is a gold medal hopeful for upcoming regional competitions, including SEA Games 2017 and Asiad 2018. He bagged two golds for Việt Nam at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

Four gymnasts from Việt Nam - Lê Thanh Tùng, Phạm Phước Hưng, Đinh Phương Thành and Đặng Nam - participated in the gymnastic event, the first major competition of the sport this year. — VNS
