HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese pool players Đoàn Thị Ngọc Lệ and Bùi Xuân Vàng joined the eSpring International Women’s 9-Ball Championship, which kicked off yesterday in Chinese Taipei.
Unlike its predecessors, this year’s tournament, which is known as the Amway Cup, has been moved to a new venue at the Banqiao Gymnasium in New Taipei City.
Forty players will go head to head to try to win the most prestigious title in women’s pool. A total of US$93,000 in prize funds are at stake, with $34,000 going to the winner, while the runner-up will receive $13,000.
Over 70 qualifiers got underway from June 13 to 15 at the Ji-Hsien Pool Club in Luzhou, New Taipei City.
In the main stage of the tournament, players will be divided into eight groups of five. They will play in a round robin format and will race to seven.
Lệ is in Group H, while Vàng is in Group E.
The top three of each group will advance to the final 24, where the format will change to a single-elimination race to seven.
The semi-finals will be a race to nine event. The final, to be held on Sunday, will be a race to 11 event. — VNS
