Paragliders to race from Sơn Trà Mountain

Đà Nẵng — Around 50 fliers from clubs nationwide will compete in a paragliding race on Sơn Trà Peninsula in the central city of Đà Nẵng on June 17-22.

The head of Đà Nẵng Paragliding club, Dương Hiển Hoàng said the race, Flying over the Tiên Sa Festival, aims to boost tourism and create a recreational event for tourists during summer.

 

He said members from VietWing, Aviation Clubs of Hà Nội, Hải Phòng, Nha Trang, the Northern and Southern Aviation clubs, and 10 free paragliders and foreigners will join the five-day event.

 

As scheduled, men’s and women’s pilots will race from the top of Sơn Trà Mountain (693m above sea level) to land on Mân Thái beach over seven rounds for the championship title on two days from June 18-19.

 

The event’s organising committee also host fun fly for tourists after the race.

 

Paragliding is a recreational and competitive sport that took off in the country 10 years ago.

 

The city also hosts an annual paragliding event to attract tourists during summer holidays.

 

In 2012, the coastal city hosted the International Paramotor Race, which drew thousands of spectators. — VNS
