HÀ NỘI — The HCM City Futsal Open will be organised on June 21-26 with the participation of eight teams.
They are divided into two groups - national champions and No. 1 seed Thái Sơn Nam are in Group B, while runners-up Sanna Khánh Hòa are the favourite in Group A.
The teams will compete in a round robin format with the two best teams advancing to the semi-finals.
Sanna Khánh Hòa will play Thái Sơn Bắc in the opening match.
According to Trần Anh Tú, president of the HCM City Football Federation, the teams were allowed to hire foreign players. This rule was expected to push the quality of the tournament.
Tú, who is also the boss of defending champions Thái Sơn Nam, said his managing board had contacted two foreigners who had played under his team’s jersey at the last event, and also introduced some players to test their skills with the Sanna Khánh Hòa team.
The tournament, which is also known as the LS Cup, is free for fans in the group round at the Thái Sơn Nam and Phú Thọ gymnasiums, but tickets are needed for the final and the third-place play-off match, which will be telecast live on the HTV channel. — VNS
