HÀ NỘI -- Hà Nội improved its No 1 kickboxing position after taking the top place of the National Kickboxing Championships 2025's medal tally which closed on June 21 in Bắc Ninh Province.

The Hanoian athletes pocketed 12 golds, six in men's side and six in the women's side to set their domination in another year.

They also secured two silver and three bronzes.

The Military team and Bình Định came second while HCM City and Nghệ An finished third in the men's and women's ranking table, respectively.

Apart from strong teams, the tournament also saw rising stars such as Bắc Giang with three surprising golds and fourth place in the men's competition.

The tournament featured senior fighters such as Huỳnh Văn Tuấn of HCM City, Nguyễn Quang Huy and Triệu Thị Phương Thuỷ of Hà Nội and Bùi Thị Yến Nhi of Hậu Giang, who showed impressive performance to defend their titles.

According to the Kickboxing Federation of Việt Nam President Vũ Đức Thịnh, Hà Nội's leading place showed the team's long tradition and strong movement with sustainable development in kickboxing.

Meanwhile Bắc Giang's achievement resulted from their serious support and care of all levels to the martial art when seeing its potential.

He said the tournament was an important event and a base for national coaches to choose members of the national teams.

These competitors would serve Việt Nam in the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand in December.

"We will test and pick the strongest ones for the SEA Games campaign. They will receive best conditions and support for highest results," he said.

Meanwhile, Đàm Công Điền, official of the Boxing and Kickboxing Department of the Sports Authority of Việt Nam, said after the championships, athletes would gather for intensive training from July to December to prepare for the regional sporting festival.

Last Games in 2023, Việt Nam bagged four golds to finish in second position, below host Cambodia.

President Thịnh added that the tournament would be a review of national kickboxing movement from scouting activities to training plans. From there the federation would build a long-term development strategy for kickboxing. VNS
