HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese national football team head coach Kim Sang-sik envisions a future in which his players don Manchester United jerseys.

After winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Kim participated in an interview with Vietnamese media. Notably, he shared that he received congratulations from former South Korean national team player Park Ji-sung.

“I received congratulations from Park Ji-sung, my former teammate on the South Korean national team, who also played for Man U -- a club I hold in high regard. Sir Alex Ferguson is a role model I aspire to learn from, and I hope that one day a Vietnamese player will represent Man U,” Kim stated.

The head coach expressed his desire to be seen as a formidable presence by his opponents. “In terms of expertise, I aim to be a courageous coach, as fearsome as a tiger in front of my adversaries,” he said.

During the ASEAN Cup 2024, the Vietnamese team maintained an unbeaten record, achieving seven wins and one draw. While praising the players' efforts, Kim also acknowledged the passion of Vietnamese fans.

“I want to dedicate this championship to the Vietnamese fans. I sincerely thank everyone for their support and encouragement, which has motivated our team. I also appreciate the fans who traveled to Thailand to cheer for us. Even with many Thai fans in the stadium, the Vietnamese supporters brightened a corner of the stands. Thank you all for your encouragement and for helping us achieve this historic victory,” Kim stated. VNS
