HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam had an impressive start in the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers, achieving a dominant 5-1 victory over host nation Myanmar on Wednesday evening.
Just eight minutes into the match, Việt Nam surged ahead with a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from K'Thủa and Nguyễn Phương Anh. Three minutes later, Trần Thị Thu Xuân increased the advantage to 3-0 with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area.
However, a lapse in concentration allowed Myanmar to score their first goal. Ya Min Thant Zin displayed her skill by lifting the ball over the Vietnamese goalkeeper, bringing the score to 3-1.
Before the first half concluded, Phương Anh struck again, skillfully tapping the ball into the net to extend Việt Nam's lead to 4-1.
After halftime, although the Vietnamese players chose to slow the pace, they added another goal in the 34th minute, finalising the score at 5-1.
With this victory, Việt Nam currently hold second place in Group D, trailing Taiwan (China) on goal difference, as Taiwan had previously defeated Macau (China) 18-0.
Việt Nam next face Macau on Friday, while Myanmar will take on Taiwan.
The 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers consist of four groups - two with four teams, two with five. The top two teams from each group, along with the third-placed team with the best record, will qualify for the finals in China in May, joining hosts China and defending champions Japan, along with Iran.
