Martial artists bag medals at Asian wushu champs

Vietnamese martial artists secured one silver and two bronzes in the first day of competition at the Asian Wushu Championships on September 12 in Macau, China.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese martial artists secured one silver and two bronzes in the first day of competition at the 10th Asian Wushu Championships on September 12 in Macau, China.

Vũ Văn Tuấn finished second in the men's taolu (performance) daoshu event with 9.693 points. It is the first continental medal of the 22-year-old artist.

He was a hair gap below Chinese Xiaobin Gao who took gold with 9.806 points.

Zi Meng Ong of Singapore came third with 9.690 points.

Later, Nông Văn Hữu took bronze in the men's nanquan with 9.690 points. He was behind Kai Jie Bryan Ti of Malaysia (9.696 points) and Donghae Yun of South Korea (9.690 points).

It is also Hữu's first time at the Asian championship. He took gold in the nandao/nangun combination event at the 32nd SEA Games last May in Cambodia.

In the men's qiangshu event, Vietnamese Nguyễn Văn Sỹ placed third with 9.690 points.

The winner was An Xu of China and Chi Hin Kuong of the hosts.

Việt Nam temporally place fifth after the first day.

The championships which offer medals in taolu and sanda (combat) events will end on September 15. VNS
