HÀ NỘI — World Games champion Dương Thúy Vi will lead the national team at the 10th Asian Wushu Championships 2024 in Macao, China.
The team on September 9 left for the competition which is considered a key event for Việt Nam in 2024 as it features the strongest competitors from the continent which is the world hub of wushu.
Vietnamese martial artists are expected to have high results at the championship after their positive record at a recent training event in China.
Vi is the most experienced and achieved of Việt Nam in Macao. She has won gold in all tournament levels including world championships, Asian championships, World Games, Asian Games and regional tournaments.
In addition to Vi, Đặng Trần Phương Nhi is another strong competitor as she won two golds at the world championships 2023.
Other medal favourites include Nguyễn Thị Hiền, Lệ Chi, Kiều Trang, Nguyễn Thị Ngãi, Văn Sỹ, Văn Phương, Trọng Lâm and Trần Thị Hà.
They will compete in both taolu (performance) and sanda (combat) categories until September 16. In combats, men will fight in the 48kg to 90kg while women will vie in weight classes from 48kg to 75kg.
The team set a target of winning golds in both taolu and sanda at the championships. VNS
