New head coach announced for U19 national team

HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Football Federation (VFF) has officially announced Hứa Hiền Vinh as the head coach of the U19 men's national team.

Vinh, who had previously been responsible for player selection and coaching in the VFF, led the young squad into the 2024 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U19 Youth Championship, where they successfully qualified for the finals of the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup.

The 51-year-old from HCM City, Vinh has accumulated years of experience working at the Promotion Fund for Vietnamese Football Talent (PVF) Football Training Centre.

In the 2023 AFF U23 Championships, Vinh served as an assistant to coach Hoang Anh Tuan and played a significant role in guiding the Vietnamese U23 side to their second victory at the tournament in Thailand.

Tomorrow, a total of 30 footballers from the U19 squad will assemble for their first training session, aiming to be match ready for the 2024 AFF U19 Youth Championship, which will take place in Indonesia from July 17 to July 29. They will also be preparing for the qualifying round of the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup finals, scheduled for late September.

Under coach Vinh's leadership, the team will also be playing in a friendly tournament held in China from June 2 to June 12, lining up against formidable opponents, including Uzbekistan, the Republic of Korea and the host nation.

In addition to announcing the head coach, the VFF appointed coach Trần Minh Chiến to manage the U17 squad. The U17 footballers will come together on May 22 in preparation for their participation in the AFF U16 Championship, scheduled to take place from May 21 to July 4.
