Linh smashes her way to Clans Arctic Open quarter-finals

HÀ NỘI — Badminton star Nguyễn Thùy Linh, Việt Nam's sole representative at the Clans Arctic Open 2023 in Vantaa, Finland, has advanced to the quarter-finals.

World No 26 Linh defeated Zhang Yi Man, No 15, of China 21-17, 13-21, 21-14 in the second round match of the women's singles category at the Vantaa Energia Arena on October 12.

It was her second win against world higher-placed rival in the tournament. In the first round, Linh beat Beiwen Zhang of the US, who is the world No 10 and the event's No 4 seed.

The Vietnam Open 2023 champion will next play No 8 seed Pusarla V. Sindhu who is world No 13 from India.

The Finnish BWF World Tour Super 500 event which will close on October 15 is one of Linh's target tournaments where she expected to collect points for an Olympic place in 2024 in Paris.

Other competitions include the VICTOR Denmark Open 2023 from October 17-22, French Open from October and Korea Masters 2023 from November 7-12. — VNS
