HÀ NỘI — Asian Games champion Phạm Quang Huy will seek an Olympic place at the 2023 Asian Shooting Championship in South Korea later this month.

The 15th competition will take place from October 22 to November 2 in Changwon City. Top shooters from across Asia will compete in various events.

Huy who won Việt Nam's first ever Asian Games title will compete in his strong point of men's 10m air pistol against more than 110 athletes. 

Việt Nam have to date earned one place in the women's 10m air pistol event by Trịnh Thu Vinh.

After his historic gold, Huy is favourite to take another at these games. The 27-year-old revealed that his top priority was to qualify for the 2024 Olympics Games.

A total of 24 Olympic quota places will be on offer in the Korean tournament in which about 1,800 athletes from 45 nations are expected to participate.

The places are divided across the 12 individual events in the rifle, pistol, trap and skeet categories 

Hoàng Xuân Vinh has been the only Vietnamese athlete winning medals at the Olympics. He pocketed one gold and one silver from the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016. VNS
