HÀ NỘI — Swimmer Nguyễn Huy Hoàng will hold Việt Nam's national flag at the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games in May in Cambodia.
Hoàng was one of the top 10 athletes of Việt Nam in 2022. He won the trophy for male athlete of the year at the Victory Cup. The 23-year-old won five gold medals and set one record at the 31st SEA Games last May in Hà Nội. He was voted the best Vietnamese swimmer in SEA Games history.
He has been chosen to be the national flag bearer for different international competitions, the latest one was the 31st Games.
The national top swimmer and other teammates are training in Hungary. He will return to Việt Nam next week to join the national team for the Phnom Penh Games.
"It is my pride, my honour to take that responsibility. I will try my best in training and competing to meet people's expectation of me," said Hoàng. "My target at the SEA Games to win at least three gold medals. I hope that I will complete my task and contribute to Việt Nam's success."
The 32nd Games will begin on May 5. Swimming will be held at the Morodok Techo National Complex's Aquatic Centre from May 6-11. VNS
