VĨNH PHÚC — Duo Richein Yosorez and Islay Erika Bomogao Asiong from the Philippines scored 8.68 points for their performance in the women’s Waikru Mai Muay final of the SEA Games 31 at the northern Vĩnh Phúc sports centre on May 17.

The Philippines’ athletes beat Vietnamese Phạm Thị Diễm Trang, and Phạm Thị Bích Liễu, who completed the performance with 8.56 points for a silver medal.

Mawadhee Heetnoo and Thanawan Thongduang of Thailand took bronze on 8.35 points.

The Vietnamese duo would have won a gold medal if their performance did not exceed the regular time set by the organising committee. So, the referees deducted their initial points from 8.82 points to 8.56 and they missed out on gold.

It was the first medal for Việt Nam in a muay event at the Games.

Artists will compete in muay events for 11 medal sets in men’s and women’s performances and combat.
