Việt Nam reports 54th COVID-related death

A man from northern Hưng Yên Province has died of COVID-19 related complications, the 54th death recorded in Việt Nam, the Ministry of Health confirmed on Tuesday.

 HÀ NỘI — A man from northern Hưng Yên Province has died of COVID-19 related complications, the 54th death recorded in Việt Nam, the Ministry of Health confirmed at noon on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old man had a number of underlying health conditions including hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver.

On May 4, the patient was admitted to National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hà Nội’s Đông Anh District, suffering from a fever, loss of appetite and jaundice. He tested positive for coronavirus on May 9.

Over the next few weeks his condition gradually worsened and he did not respond well to treatment.

On Monday (June 7), he suffered from Hemorrhagic shock and his body began to shut down due to large amounts of blood loss. He died later the same day.

The cause of the death has been recorded as hemorrhagic shock due to gastrointestinal bleeding, cirrhosis of the liver, liver failure and pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. — VNS
