Former South Korean police officer arrested for drug trafficking

HCM CITY — Police have arrested five people over suspected drug trafficking, including a former South Korean police officer.

Kim Soon Sik, 60, a former police officer in the Republic of Korea, another South Korean, two Chinese and Vietnamese person were all arrested on suspicions of attempting to ship 40 kilos of methamphetamine from HCM City’s Cát Lái Port to South Korea’ Incheon Port.

The Ministry of Public Security said the suspects were arrested at about 0:30 am on Sunday after police inspected a 20-feet-long container.

The customs declaration said the container carried out granite stone, but when customs staff were about to disinfect the container before transporting it to South Korea, they found the methamphetamine hidden in the granite.

The ministry said this is the first time police busted a drug-trafficking ring involving both South Korean and Chinese nationals to traffick methamphetamine. — VNS
