HÀ NỘI — About 200 metres of Trần Hưng Đạo Street from Lê Duẩn Street to Yết Kiêu Street in Hà Nội’s Hoàn Kiếm District will be narrowed to make room for the construction of Nhổn- Hà Nội Railway Station on the city’s new urban railway route in the next few days.

Hà Nội Urban Railway Management Board announced the move on Monday, saying the stretch would be reduced to five metres wide and turned into a one-way street from Lê Duẩn Street to Quán Sứ Street.

Barriers would be installed along the stretch and parking plots along it would be closed, the management board said.

The urban railway route running through the districts of Bắc Từ Liêm, Nam Từ Liêm, Cầu Giấy, Ba Đình, Đống Đa and Hoàn Kiếm is 12.5km long including 8.5km of elevated track and 4km underground.

Construction was started on the line in September 2010, and was originally supposed to be finished in 2017. Under the updated plan released last year, the elevated part of the route will go into operation in 2020 and the underground part will be operational in 2022.

According to the management board, 40 per cent of the work has been completed.

On the 8.5km-long elevated part from Nhồn to Cầu Giấy, 98 per cent of the work has been done. On the 4km-long underground part from Kim Mã Street to Hà Nội Railway Station, work is ongoing at Kim Mã and Cát Linh depots.

Work on two other underground depots in Văn Miếu and Hà Nội Railway Station will start next month. — VNS
