HÀ NỘI — Trade union leaders of enterprises located in the Hải Phòng Economic Zone expressed their hope that labourers will receive the most favourable conditions at work during their meeting with Trương Thị Mai, head of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee’s Commission on Mass Mobilisation.

Mai paid a visit to the economic zone, which has a large number of local and foreign labourers, yesterday to discuss the implementation of policies and laws on trade union and labour relations.

According to the trade union leaders and managers of enterprises, local trade unions which act as a bridge linking labourers and managers help the workers express their wishes and make proposals while helping managers understand workers’ problems and put forth solutions in order to ensure legitimate rights and benefits of the two sides.

A number of leaders proposed adjusting extra working time and expected traffic safety to be ensured on roads on which labourers of local economic zones and industrial parks regularly travel.

Bùi Văn Cường, President of the Việt Nam General Confederation of Labour, praised the performance of Hải Phòng economic zone’s trade unions, especially for not allowing any wildcat strikes.

The Confederation will continue to support investors in constructing social housing and set up working cultural norms to create better working conditions for the labourers, he said.

Hải Phòng City’s Party Committee Secretary Lê Văn Thành said that businesses operating in local economic zones and industrial parks have made contributions to the remarkable economic development of the city.

He suggested grassroots trade unions work towards solutions to uphold responsibilities of labourers and maintain labour discipline.

Head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission on Mass Mobilisation Trương Thị Mai lauded the city’s trade unions, especially for setting up collective bargaining agreements, helping create good working conditions, while limiting labour disputes and collective strikes.

She requested leaders of local trade unions, leaders of major domestic and international organizations, including the International Labour Organisation based in Việt Nam, to launch initiatives to address complicated labour issues.

It is necessary to sign labour agreements which serve as a foundation to create stable working conditions for labourers. Increasing extra working time must be in line with boosting productivity, improving product quality, ensuring labourers’ health and stimulating the national economy, she said.

Trade unions should organise training for labourers, set up business norms and continue to bring into play their roles of protecting legitimate benefits of labourers including working hours, wages and insurance.

According to Hải Phòng Economic Zone’s management board, more than 122,000 local labourers and more than 2,500 foreigners are working at the city’s economic zones and industrial parks.

Ninety two labour agreements have been signed in the city with more benefits for labourers such as financial assistance for petrol (for traveling to work), allowances and new year bonuses, she said. — VNS
