HCM CITY— The HCM City Department of Transport has told transport companies and bus stations not to raise fares for the upcoming New Year holiday.

Đặng Nguyễn Nguyên Huân, deputy chairman of Western Bus Station, said the fares would not increase during the New Year holiday.

During the five-day New Year holiday from December 28 to January 1, 2019, the station expects to serve more than 200,000 passengers, an increase of 3 to 5 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The number of passengers on a peak day (December 29) could reach 52,000 to 54,000 passengers, he added.

Travel fares in Eastern Bus Station will also remain the same for the period, according to Nguyễn Hoàng Huy, deputy chairman of the station.

The number of passengers at the station during holidays is expected to increase by 30 to 35 per cent compared to normal days, and 3 per cent against the same period last year.

Most passengers are travelling to central and Central Highlands provinces, and provinces which have resorts and tourism services such as Khánh Hoà and Bình Thuận provinces.

In addition, the department has directed the agencies to ensure transport to serve passengers.

The city’s Transport Management Centre will be responsible for adjusting bus routes and preventing congestion.

The city department also proposed the Directorate for Road of Việt Nam and Road Management agencies to coordinate with traffic police to ease congestion on national routes. — VNS
