QUẢNG BÌNH — Police from the central province of Quảng Bình recently arrested Xechvang, 23, a Laotian man, for illegally transporting 308.6kg of methamphetamine by pickup truck.

According to the police, this is the biggest quantity of methamphetamine seized in the province so far.

Under the initial investigation, the police discovered the methamphetamine hidden in 12 bulk bags after they stopped the pickup truck last Friday for running over the permitted speed on a stretch of the National Highway 1A through Hưng Thủy Commune.

The two men in the truck immediately ran from the scene after the police stopped their vehicle.

The local police department had dispatched hundreds of police in an attempt to arrest the two men. They caught Xechvang last Saturday when he was hiding in an area near Tân Thủy Commune.

Vàng then admitted to the police that he was paid US$10,000 to illegally ship the methamphetamine from Hà Tĩnh Province to a man in Đà Nẵng City.

The police are searching for the other man as well as investigating the case.

In another development, Nguyễn Ngọc Ích, 41, and Trần Đình Hợi, 34, of Hạnh Lâm Commune in the central province of Nghệ An, were arrested on Monday for illegally trafficking 30 cakes of heroin, each weighing about 350 grammes, from Nghệ An Province to HCM City.

The two men were arrested when they were driving his four-seater black car on a stretch of National Highway 46, running through Vân Diên Commune in Nam Đàn District.

When the police stopped their vehicle for inspection, the two men tried to escape but failed. The police found the heroin was hidden in a backpack.
