HÀ NỘI — A high-level appeals court in Hà Nội yesterday upheld the prison sentences of three defendants for conducting propaganda against the State of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam.

According to the indictments, Vũ Quang Thuận, 52, from Thái Bình Province, Nguyễn Văn Điển, 35, from Yên Bái Province, and Trần Hoàng Phúc, 24, from HCM City, were found guilty of making and uploading 17 video clips to social networks on the internet as well as storing many documents with defamatory content of the people’s administration between October 2016 and March 2017. They were also found to fabricate and distort the truth about the leadership of the Party and the direction of the State in the process of building, developing and defending the country.

The court yesterday decided that all of the above actions of the defendants aimed at disseminating, provoking and appealing against the State of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam, causing panic among people and provoking negative thoughts against the country.

The court upheld the prison sentences from the previous court, of Thuận to eight years, Điển six and a half years and Phúc six years. — VNS
