Forest officers suspended for failure to stop deforestation

QUẢNG NAM – Director of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department in central Quảng Nam province dismissed some local forest rangers for their failure to prevent deforestation, which came to light recently.

Trần Lanh, head of Nam Sông Bung forest protection and management station, was removed from his post for failing to fulfil his duties, resulting in deforestation in Nam Giang District’s Tà Pơ and Chà Val communes.

Hồ Văn Minh, head of Sông Kôn forest protection and management station, was disciplined for failing in his responsibility of forest protection.

Six others received disciplinary action and strong warnings.

So far this year, forest rangers in Quảng Nam province have detected 242 cases of violation of the law on forest protection and have seized more than 306cu.m of timber of all kinds.

Of this, 33 trees, with a total volume of over 223cu.m, were illegally chopped in Cha Val Commune’s Nam Sông Bung protected forest. – VNS
