HÀ NỘI — Nearly five million passengers used the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system within a year of its operation, according to Urban Transport Management Centre of Hà Nội’s Transport Department.
The centre on Thursday made public the working results of BRT No 1 which runs on Yên Nghĩa-Kim Mã route after one year of its operation.
BRT No 1 was introduced in Hà Nội and operated on a trial basis.
During the trial, the buses have transported 4.98 million passengers, reaching an average rate of 30.7 passengers every round, with 68.8 passengers every round during peak hours.
The number of passengers who used monthly tickets for BRT was higher than that for normal buses, said the centre.
Most of the passengers were satisfied with BRT’s service, the centre said.
The first BRT route, covering 14.7km, starts at the Kim Mã Station in Ba Đình District and go up to the Yên Nghĩa Station in Hà Đông District.
It runs through Giảng Võ, Láng Hạ, Lê Văn Lương and Lê Trọng Tấn, as well as Trần Phú and Ba La streets.
Some 21 bus stops have been built on the entire route, with a bus departing every five minutes and each carrying up to 90 passengers. Each bus will be equipped with GPS, which will be connected to a centre to assist during accidents.
It takes an estimated 30 minutes to travel the entire route, as opposed to the current one hour or more.
HCM City also plans to introduce BRT in the city. — VNS
