HÀ NỘI — Residents living around the Hoàng Cầu Lake in Đống Đa District were greeted to the ghastly sight of a large number of dead fish in the lake on Thursday afternoon.

A similar incident had occurred in the lake a year ago, when fish had died en masse. The foul smell emitting from the fish had forced the residents to clear the dead fish until night then. Reasons were said to be pollution and weather changes but there has been no official conclusion so far.

The residents said that fish had been dying since Tuesday, but a large number had died on Thursday.

Many fish weighed several kilogrammes each.

The reason for the deaths is still being investigated. — VNS
