QUẢNG TRỊ — The first wind power plant in the central province of Quảng Trị has begun contributing electricity to the national power grid, a positive sign for the future of green energy development.
This is the first wind power plant in the northern part of the central region of Việt Nam.
An official from Hướng Linh 2 plant said the plant started operating earlier this week at a capacity of 30MW, which is being transferred to the national grid.
The VNĐ14 trillion (US$619 million) plant is located in the province’s mountainous Hướng Hóa District and has been built by a Vietnamese company, which has also invested in another wind power plant, Hướng Linh 1.
Hướng Linh 1 is expected to start trial operations in October.
The country’s central region is a narrow strip of land with steep topography, so hydro power plants will severely impact the region’s environment and people. Green energy development, such as wind power plants, is the only hope for achieving sustainable development goals in the region. — VNS
