Transport firms gear up for holiday

Transport companies are adding more vehicles for the upcoming Liberation and May Day holidays, with coach fares for long trips from HCM City to other localities expected to increase by 30-40 per cent.

HCM CITY — Transport companies are adding more vehicles for the upcoming Liberation and May Day holidays, with coach fares for long trips from HCM City to other localities expected to increase by 30-40 per cent.

The price of tickets for routes from Miền Đông Coach Station to Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu, Bình Dương, Bình Phước and Đồng Nai provinces will surge by around 30 per cent during the holidays, Nguyễn Hoàng Huy, deputy director of Miền Đông Coach Station in HCM City, told Giao Thông (Transport) newspaper.

Fares of coaches for long trips from Miền Đông Coach Station to the Central Highlands and central provinces such as Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Bình Thuận and Quảng Ngãi will rise by around 40 per cent, Huy said.

The number of passengers is expected to increase by 3 per cent compared to the same period last year, he said.

The price of buses for long trips from HCM City to the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta provinces will surge by around 40 per cent from April 29-30.

The number of passengers could reach 56,000-58,000 per day during the holiday, said Trần Văn Phương, deputy director of Miền Tây Coach Station in HCM City.

More than 50 standby coaches are available at the station to serve an unexpected surge in the number of passengers, Phương said.

Coach operators have also prepared to allocate sufficient vehicles for travel demand during the long holiday, he said.

The Hà Nội Coach Station Management Company said it planned to run an additional 410 trips from April 28-29, mostly from Hà Nội to Phú Thọ, Quảng Ninh, Thanh Hóa, Thái Bình, Nam Định, Lào Cai, Sơn La and Điện Biên provinces.

The Hà Nội Railway Joint Stock Company will operate an additional 30 passenger trains on Hà Nội- Lào Cai, Hà Nội- Hải Phòng and routes from Hà Nội to southern region during the holiday.

The number of trains departing from Sài Gòn to Phan Thiết, Nha Trang and Quy Nhơn and in the reverse direction will increase by 29 during the holiday, according to the Sài Gòn Railway Joint Stock Company.

Most railway tickets for short trips have sold out, while there are still a lot of tickets for long trips, the company said. 

Vietnam Airlines will add 175 flights on eight domestic routes from April 27 to May 3.

The number of flights from Hà Nội/HCM City to Đà Nẵng will increase by more than 100, from Hà Nội/ HCM City to Phú Quốc by 40 and Hà Nội/ HCM City-Nha Trang by 18.

An additional 1,350 bus trips on 17 routes in HCM City will serve rising demand of commuters during the holiday, according to the city’s Management and Operation Centre for Public Transport.

Buses on routes such as University of Science and Technology-The National University, Bến Thành-The International University and Bến Thành-Tôn Đức Thắng University will not run during the holiday.

Road construction projects will be halted on Liberation Day and May Day, from April 30 to May 1, according to the city’s Department of Transport. —VNS
