TÂY NINH Police in the southern Tây Ninh Province have arrested a person in connection with a case of illegal cross-border money transportation, valued at more than US$400,000, from Cambodia to Việt Nam.

The subject is identified as Trần Đức Long, 32, living in southern Bình Phước Province’s Bình Long Town, according to the Pháp Luật TP HCM (HCM City Law) newspaper.

On April 18, customs officials and border guards detected Long carrying the money at the Mộc Bài International Border Gate.

Long admitted that on April 17, he visited a friend in Cambodia and with him went to gamble at the Nagaword casino in Phnom Penh. Later, Long’s friend asked him to deliver $400,000 to a person in HCM City.

Long received $700 as part of the deal.

To avoid border officials, Long and his Cambodian friend hid the money in confectionery boxes; however, Long was nabbed by the police. — VNS
