Four family members murdered in Lào Cai Province

Four people belonging to a single family in this northern mountainous province were murdered during a suspected robbery Tuesday evening, the provincial People’s Committee of Bát Xát District has said.

LÀO CAI — Four family members in the northern mountainous province of Lào Cai were murdered during a suspected robbery Tuesday evening, the provincial People’s Committee of Bát Xát District has said.

Hoàng Đăng Khoa, chairman of the committee, confirmed that the four family members from Trịnh Tường Commune were found dead. The robber had ransacked the house and stolen more than VNĐ10 million (US$434).

Initial reports showed that at about 10pm Tuesday, Tẩn Ông Nải, 22, and his parents returned home after working in a rice field and found his wife, his two daughters and his niece had been killed.

Tẩn Mai Phương, Nai’s 16-year-old niece, was found dead in a nearby stream with rocks piled on her body. His wife, Tẩn Tả Mẩy, 22, had been drowned in a pond some 100m from the house. His two daughters, a 12-year-old and a 20-day-old infant, were found dead in a canal nearby.

Authorities have ordered an autopsy, and investigations are underway to find the killer(s) and determine their motives. — VNS
